Exam time can be very stressful time. Whether you're studying for the leaving certificate, A-Levels or college exams, the number of subjects and exams can be overwhelming. We have compiled our top tips to help you preform your best and get through exam time smoothly.
1. Make a Plan
First thing is first - make a study plan. The best way to do this is to take each subject and break it down into topics that you need to cover. Then categorise your strong subjects together and your weak subjects together, so that you know what subjects (weaker ones!) need more attention. You then make a timetable of what you plan to do week-by-week. A good tip when planning your timetable is to start your first hour of study each day with your stronger subjects, this will ease you into the study 'flow' and you'll be able to take on the more challenging subjects better after.
2. Take Regular Breaks
It is important to take breaks into account. Breaks are essential to maintaining mental clarity. So be sure you schedule regular 10 minute breaks to get a cup of tea, or go for a short walk. Whatever it is be sure you regularly get away from your study desk for 10 minutes.
Exercise is so important to maintaining a healthy body and healthy mind. It is recommended that we take at least 30 minutes moderate to high intensity exercise at least 5 days a week. When you're studying, it's important to take time to exercise every day. This might be an hour in the gym or simply a 30 minute walk. Exercise will give you more energy and mental clarity to get through your study plan.
4. Eat a Healthy Diet
It's all about brain food when studying. Avoid processed foods when studying as they provide little nutrition. Remember that 'real' food such as fruit and veg, lean meats and fish will give you the right nutrition to help your concentration and brain function. Foods such as fish, Avocados, nuts, eggs are packed full of 'healthy fats' that are great for boosting your brain power.
5. Stay Hydrated
Our bodies are made up of more that 70% water, so it's essential that we stay hydrated. Keep sugary drinks and caffeine at a minimum. Aim to drink 2.5L of water per day. This will help to keep your energy levels up and your mind clear.
6. Take a Brain Health Supplement
Research shows when DHA, uridine and choline are taken together in the proper amounts, the brain becomes increasingly more efficient at building connections and memories within the brain. Absorbing, processing, storing and recalling information on request becomes more efficient and the brain is able to function to its optimum with the required ingredients available. These findings yield great potential for students in particular as the period of exam preparation and study relies on the optimum function of the brain in this fashion.
That’s why we at Revive Active formulated Mastermind in collaboration with Northumbria University’s Brain Performance Nutrition Centre. Mastermind includes all 3 ingredients DHA, uridine and choline in the proper amounts, along with a range of supporting nutrients to give students the needed edge to get the most out of study and exam preparation.
